This Lyndale Mediterranean home has undergone a stunning transformation, reconfiguring the floor plan to maximize space and enhance functionality. Originally designed with narrow hallways and unnecessary partitions, the home now boasts an open, inviting layout that seamlessly blends modern convenience with its Mediterranean charm.
A Grand Entrance
The entryway was once a cramped, traditional foyer with a small closet, door, and a radiator, making the space feel congested. By removing all three, we introduced a much more open and airy feel. A sleek new bench now provides a welcoming touch, accompanied by wall hooks for coats. The original tile was replaced with a classic herringbone design in marble, lending a timeless yet elegant feel. The homeowners plan to add wallpaper down the line to bring a touch of personality and charm.
Enhancing the Architectural Integrity
The staircase remained in place, maintaining its original character. We thoughtfully integrated archways throughout the home to honor its Mediterranean style, extending these elements to additional doorways. A significant structural change involved removing a large section of wall between the kitchen and living room, creating a seamless connection while preserving the home’s architectural integrity.
Seamless Flooring and a Refreshed Dining Space
The flooring throughout the home required careful attention, as multiple areas needed patching. We meticulously matched and stained the hardwood flooring, making the transition between old and new completely seamless. In the dining room, we removed and redid the sheetrock while also opening up the wall between the kitchen and dining space. These adjustments significantly improved the traffic flow and functionality of the space.
A Kitchen Designed for Modern Living
One of the most impactful changes took place in the kitchen. The back hallway and an inefficient doorway leading into the front room were removed, reclaiming valuable square footage. To optimize the kitchen’s efficiency, we eliminated booth seating and replaced it with a stylish peninsula and additional cabinetry. Thoughtful storage solutions were incorporated throughout, including a custom-built Roomba cabinet that allows the device to come and go without being physically seen, a dedicated space for a step stool, a vertical junk drawer, and a built-in garbage and compost system. Additional storage was cleverly added under the staircase, ensuring every inch of space was utilized effectively.
A new sliding glass door was installed, providing a much-improved transition between the indoor and outdoor living areas. The stucco exterior was touched up, and a new light fixture was added, enhancing both functionality and aesthetics.
A Stylish and Functional Upstairs Bonus Space
Without incurring the added costs of a full master bathroom, the homeowners desired a more functional morning routine space. To accommodate this, we created a stylish and highly functional vanity area with custom cabinetry and ample storage. Bold wallpaper and playful hardware details add personality to the space, transforming it into a beautiful yet practical bonus area.
